RD, Bill and all,
Please post / take note of this trip .........

Saturday March 1, 2008 I have a permit to visit Lake Cave. It is at the back of Slaughter Canyon which means a long but fun hike. It takes about 3 plus hours to reach the cave. I plan on being in the cave about 3 to 4 hours. Return trip to trail head takes about 2 1/2 hours, it's down hill! This is an all day trip. Not may permits are issued to this little visited cave......the pain of getting there! I can take 5. Please let me know if interested. Also, I will be working at Mirror Lake on the Sunday after, March 2. If you wish to join in on the restoration, please let me know so I can get you approved/ permitted by Resources at CCNP. We will be staying in one of the research huts at the park.

   Hello all,
I just got an email from Jim Goodbar today. The dates for the SWR Restoration Project/ Spring Conference are April 5 & 6, 2008 at McKittrick Hill. Plan to attend now!

I can't help but brag alittle.... I am just too excited! Jim has asked me to be a trip leader for a major trip with the BLM doing training on cave restoration for NOLS out of Tuson, Arizona next month. Too cool!

I am also working on a trip to Lake Cave at theback of Slaughter Canyon for March 1 and restoration work at Mirror Lake on Sunday the 2nd. If interested, let me know since I am limited in space by permit.

Oops, I forgot Karen agreed to act as Conservation Chair. Roger, could you appoint her? Tammy, list her as such, and amend the minutes with a note to reflect this?

     Hey,
I am the current restoration / conservation contact for the NSS for Cowtown. I will be happy to continue unless a local wishes to step in. I can easily keep folks informed as to what projects a re floating around & with my current employer can do trips to FT Worth on a weekend to do a workshop. But better yet, could do it in a cave.
     more later,
     Karen

At last night's meeting we discussed the possibility of forming a couple of
committees to help coordinate things, caving related and otherwise. I think
that all of these positions were approved to be filled by appointment, but
qualified candidates are needed.

Conservation: chair to form committee to interact with a new network of
like-minded cavers across the country. Trail building, restoration,
lint-picking, entrance stabilization, gating, relandscaping, and cleaning
are all conservation-related activities. Sometimes these activities are
essential to making or maintaining landowner relations. Lots of
opportunities to access caves otherwise closed to visitation. Should write a
column at least annually for the newsletter on a        conservation-related topic;
a trip report, a how-to, a call-to-arms, etc. Could be an opportunity for a
club contribution to the annual NSS NEWS Conservation Issue.

Party: The grottos of North Texas once had a seasonal round of celebrations
that all cavers were invited to. The DFW hosted the Rites of Spring, The
Mavs hosted the Fall Anniversary Party, but the only one that seems to be
surviving the test of time and age seems to be the Christmas Party, hosted
in recent years by the Steele-Tomchicks. At a minimum Cowtown needs to set
up a party, maybe a midsummer party when it is too hot to camp near the
caves and the fleas and ticks are at their best. At optimum each grotto
should appoint a party committee member to coordinate the social season.
Should coordinate with other grotto party chairs and keep newsletter
editor/grotto calendar up to date.

TSA (Texas Speleological Association) Liaison: We have appointed liaisons
for the TCC and TCMA, what about the TSA? Given the current off-topic Texas
cavers discussion about the relevance of that pan-Texas organization, it
would seem to be good to have a grotto member keep tabs on TSA and report
back. It should be a member of the TSA, so thay would be able to send
communication from the grotto back up the chain of communication when
needed. Should give reports on TSA activities at grotto meetings,
occasionally a written blurb in the newsletter.

If you are qualified and interested in helping your grotto in any of these
ways please notify president Roger Mercer at

President at cowtowngrotto.org

and let him know you are available.
