Subject: Big Manhole Dig Notice
Hi all!
As you are aware, we have a Big Manhole Dig scheduled for the President’s Day weekend of February 16-18, and we need to establish whether there will be enough people planning to attend so that it will be a productive session. We need around12 people now in order for the dig to proceed efficiently.
If you are planning on attending this dig, please respond to this message (or call me at (505) 521-8630) by next Friday, February 8 Once I know that we have enough attendees, then I’ll send out another message to that effect. If I don’t get enough by next Friday, then I’ll send out a cancellation notice.
In your response, it would be nice if you could indicate for what period of time you plan on being there. Monday is a holiday for a lot of people, so if we can get enough people to stay over on Monday, we can work at least a half a day then. For most people, Saturday all day and Sunday morning is the most they can commit to.
You’ll recall from the last trip in November that we felt that we might have found the original floor of the entrance chamber and had lost the air somewhere close to the bottom. However, John Lyles suggested we try looking in an alcove of the Orange Bowl Room. We found that there was air there and a promising crack heading in the right direction. This is where we will concentrate our efforts for the upcoming dig. We will need to open up the entrance to this alcove a little to make for a more efficient operation then we should be able to make some progress.
Thanks once again to all of you who have helped so far and have kept this project going for so many years. This is definitely a team effort and it can’t happen without help from alot of people.
Breakthrough is imminent!
