All Permian Basin Speleological Society members....
Please respond via email to this poll with a for or against;
It was agreed at the last meeting that we would poll the members to see if they wanted to host a regional or not?
So does the PBSS want to host the 2008 SWR Winter Technical Regional?
Who: ALL of the member of the PBSS (I have contacted our President Kerry Lowery and he is for it, so is Sharon Long our Vice President and it was voted to do a web poll at the last meeting).
What: SWR Winter Technical Regional
When: Saturday December 6th, 2008 8:00 AM to 5 PM
Where: In Midland at the Sibley Nature Center Auditorium located at 1307 E. Wadley, Midland, Texas 79705, (the date has been reserved in advance and can be canceled easily enough if we decide not to do this)
Why: Because the last Regional hosted by the PBSS was in 1991 and it is way past time we do it again. As a member Grotto of the SWR it is our duty to host a regional every now and then.
How: This is going to take the efforts of a lot of members and by sharing the duties amongst everyone it will be a lot easier on every one. It can't be a Kerry Lowery or Bill Bentley single handed effort.
The PBSS agreed at the Spring Regional to investigate the possibility of hosting the Winter Technical Regional. The SWR is awaiting to hear what we decide. I told them it would depend on the availability of the Sibley nature Center, and if our members agreed to host.
I have already found out that the Sibley Center won't be charging us for use of the facilities. (This is a big bonus as most groups usually pay) They have agreed to let people camp at the Sibley Center, but in December that may not be very comfortable, but with this wacky weather who knows? I have space for about 4 people at my place & with tent space even more, and if others agree to do the same then we can accommodate most of the attendees as they will no doubt be already traveling long distances and the ever increasing costs associated with that. As for motels they should all be made aware to book in advance as the motels during this boom time economy tend to be booked up all the time.
Someone will need to make a call for papers and programs (Soon) and organize that part. The facility will have a screen but probably not have projectors available (Check and see) Scheduling programs from 9 AM to 12 PM and from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM. This will no doubt change right up to last minute as it has been my experience in the past.
Typically Lunch is a on your own deal. but we could do sandwiches at minimal cost to the club, or does the SWR pay that?
Evening social get together will have to be planned. At a restaurant, someone's house, or something else ....Ideas?
Other stuff:
The Permian Basin Outdoor Club will be having their annual Christmas party at the Sibley Center that same evening so we will need to be out of there by 6:00 PM or so at the latest.
Parking should not be a problem since there are plenty of spaces.
Renovations at Sibley Center are planned to be completed by August and that should not be a problem.
I am sure there are other things that will come up and need to be answered.
I have CC'd all of the officers of the Southwestern Region and maybe they can fill in on anything else I have left out just what exactly we all need to do.
Please respond by no later than 4-30-08!
Thanks
Bill Bentley
