[PBSS] PBSS 10-9-07 Meeting Notes

The PBSS meeting was called to order at 7:04 PM sharp with the banging of the sacred plastic ketchup bottle by President Bill Bentley. 

Barry Hayes gave a Treasurer's report stating we have a total of $688.98.
Kel Thomas kindly read the minutes of the last meeting and it was approved with no corrections, except I misspelled dessert. (Sorry) 

We discussed the Southwestern Regional Winter Technical is to be held December 1st, 2007 in Las Cruces New Mexico.

We discussed the Bradford Cave Trip from September 22nd, 2007 weekend and it was attended by Mike Gray and his friend from Stanton, Texas Hermina, Sharon Long, Jacqui and Kel Thomas. No surveying was done this trip, but new leads were looked at and the cave trends into some upper rooms with crawlways and small rooms with formations of crystal. It was noted that the cave was dry in the upper part and wetter in the lower sections. It was agreed that a better means of communication was in order about trips in the future for sudden last minute changes. The official contact person was transferred from Barry Hayes to Jacqui Thomas during the discussion. Although the next trip would be after hunting season when ever that was. Bats were also seen in the upper section, but were not identified.

There was a discussion about the pre and post convention trips to Bradford Cave and Jacqui will contact Travis Scott about vehicle arrangements. (The basics are 4 PBSS members leading and 15 cavers visiting)

A show of hands made it look as if maybe 3 to 4 PBSS members will be attending TCR later this month.

Jacqui Thomas announced that the Big Manhole Cave dig was scheduled for November 10th and 11th, 2007 and that all PBSS members are welcome to attend.

Discussed the November, 17 & 18, 2007 trip to McKittrick Hill that Barry is planning for Endless, Sand, and McKittrick Caves. Barry says we all need to bring wood!

We discussed the NSS ICS Convention to be held in Kerrville in July of 2009 and some of the things that a grotto might do to help out. 

We also discussed that the Southwestern Region was exploring the idea to bid for the 2013 NSS Convention to be held someplace in New Mexico. It was agreed that Bill Bentley would be the designated contact person for the Grotto and he would contact Allen Wright & Bob Rogers and let him know that the Grotto would be happy to help in some capacity. 

Bill Bentley gave a report on the recent Permian Basin Outing Club trip to Cottonwood and Black Caves in the Guadalupe District of the Lincoln National Forest of New Mexico on October 6th and 7th. He reported 
that the area around the lookout tower was crowded with cavers camping and were from Abilene, Houston, Las Cruces, and Lubbock.

We discussed the upcoming PBSS Christmas party which will be on Saturday December the 15th, 2007, to be held at Caverns of Sonora and the details have been worked out by Kel Thomas, Camping will cost $1.00 of which the club will pay for everyone who is a member who comes. This will be a fish fry event with Barry Hayes supplying all the fish, cookers and stuff. The Grotto will buy and pay for the sides and dessert. It was voted on and passed. Yummy!

Schedule was to be as follows: Nomination by mail, email, and phone calls will cease on October 23rd, 2007. Ballots will be mailed shortly there after and be collected via mail and counted at the November PBSS meeting ( November 13th, 2007) The new officers will be announced at the December Christmas party.

PBSS 2006 2007 President...

PS There was some after the meeting discussion about getting another run of grotto t-shirts made. Several people were going to check on several different leads for cheap prices.
